Harrison Alexander Giles Jr.

Mr. Harrison Alexander Giles Jr., 70, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.

Mr. Giles was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Roanoke Rapids, the son of the late Harrison A. Giles Sr. and Katherine Kidd Giles. He was a 1956 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and continued to further his education and received a BS in Nuclear Engineering, a BS in Applied Mathematics and a Masters of Science from N.C. State. After finishing his education, Harrison started his working career with the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. He then worked at JP Stevens in Charlotte, and finally retired from Bank of America after 33 years of dedicated service as an executive vice president.

In his spare time, Harrison enjoyed playing tennis, hunting, fishing, sailing, writing and playing the guitar and banjo. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a dedicated member of Providence Baptist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Marie Rodwell Giles of Charlotte; his daughters, Elizabeth Setser and her husband, Jeffery, of Charlotte, and Janis Cable and her husband, Gray, of Summerville, S.C.; a brother, James Giles and his wife, Wadad, of Durham; a sister, Mary Katherine Carroll and her husband, Ray, of Wake Forest; a grandson, Jason Setser, and granddaughter, Claire Setser, both of Charlotte; along with nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Dec. 18, at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail NC 28079.

Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19, at Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, with Dr. Al Cadenhead officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Minister Randy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the fellowship hall at Rosemary Baptist Church.

Heritage Funeral Home in Indian Trail and Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids are handling the arrangements.
